Pros of Plastic Pallets over Timber Alternatives

If you are in the business of manufacturing goods, then you would have to consider both storage as well as transportation solutions for your products. One of the more popular materials for this has been wooden pallets. However, over time, more and more people are looking to plastic pallets for their products. The following are some of the pros of plastic pallets over their timber alternatives.

Plastic pallets are lightweight

One of the biggest benefits of plastic pallets is that they are lighter in weight when compared to wooden pallets. Being light in weight means you get the chance to reduce on your shipping costs. Typically, when goods are transported, they are charged according to the quantity and the weight. Wooden pallets will significantly add to the amount of weight of your products when they are being shipped. This in turn will increase your freight costs. Plastic pallets, on the other hand, will not significantly contribute to the weight of your products. This could greatly decrease the operational costs of your business.

Plastic pallets have a prolonged lifespan

Another reason why you should consider plastic pallets is their durability. This is because plastic is less susceptible to wear and tear when compare to wood. Although wood is sturdy, it does not hold up well to heavy usage. Over time, you will find that timber pallets will begin to splinter or crack. In addition to this, wooden pallets easily succumb to damage when exposed to moisture, temperature changes and more. Plastic on the other hand, has greater structural integrity. This material will not acquire any water damage, meaning they can be stored under any conditions. The cohesive nature of plastic material also ensures that it will not splinter, unlike wood.

Plastic pallets are a hygienic option

One thing some people do not consider is the cross contamination that occurs to their goods due to direct contact with the pallets they are being stored or transported in. This is especially common with wooden pallets. Since wooden pallets are porous, they are more likely to harbor microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and more. If they are not cleaned thoroughly, these microorganisms can make their way to your products. This can be especially harmful if you are transporting consumable items. The porosity of wooden pallets also make them more susceptible to staining. Plastic pallets make a better option as they are non-porous, making them ideal to transport an array of items ranging from organic to synthetic products.
